Questions, answered

The short version of how Notewright works. Still stuck? Email us — a human replies.

How do I get started?

Create an account, open the app, and press New. Your first note is created with a short walkthrough. Everything autosaves as you type.

What does “local-first” mean?

Your notes are stored on your device first. The app reads and writes locally, so it’s instant and works with no connection. Sync runs in the background when you’re online.

How is sync end-to-end encrypted?

When you turn on sync, a key is derived from your passphrase on your device. Notes are encrypted with that key before upload. Our relay stores and forwards only ciphertext — it has no copy of your key and can’t decrypt anything.

I forgot my passphrase. Can you recover my notes?

No — and that’s the point. Because we never hold your key, we can’t reset it or read your synced notes. Keep your passphrase safe (a password manager is ideal). Notes already on a signed-in device remain readable there.

Can I use Notewright offline?

Completely. Write, edit, search and organize with no connection. Changes sync automatically the next time you’re online.

How do I export my notes?

From any note, choose Export for Markdown or HTML, or export your whole vault from settings. Your data is never locked in.

Which platforms are supported?

The web app works in any modern browser today. Native macOS, Windows, iOS and Android apps share the same encrypted vault.

How do I cancel or change my plan?

Open Settings → Billing. Changes take effect immediately and your local notes are unaffected.
